Details: 17 researchers and practitioners came together in Manchester in June to explore how community organising can help counter climate misinformation. This webinar will outline the insights emerging from the retreat and share guidelines for how community organising can support efforts to limit the appeal and spread of climate misinformation. 

Background: This webinar builds on an ongoing project into why people seek out, embrace, and share misinformation online. Previous research found that the online spaces where misinformation circulates function as communities — offering recognition, a sense of being seen and heard, of mattering and having control, much like the offline communities they may be replacing. Misinformation, in other words, isn't just false content to be corrected; it's a form of storytelling people use to build bonds and a shared identity. Community organisers have decades of tried-and-tested wisdom that climate campaigners and communicators have yet to fully draw on in their efforts to build community resilience to climate misinformation.
